14 dead sea turtles were intercepted by authorities in Palawan

People don't really care if they kill animals included on the list of endangered species as long as they get something in return. This is proven to be true when a bid to smuggle 14 pawikan (sea turtles) amounting to some P450,000 were thwarted when the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Navy intercepted the shipment in Palawan, the Coast Guard said late Wednesday as reported by GMA News.

According to the initial information, the pawikan were "stuffed with formalin for preservation," and placed in rice sacks and abandoned along the shoreline of Green Island.

The 14 pawikans were seized in Green Island in Barangay Tumarbong in Roxas and will be turned over to Palawan Council for Sustainable Development for proper disposition

This is sooo wrong! These are endangered species, you see? How many more of these in the ocean? I bet they're not that many. The next generation may just see these pawikans in books, just like kiwis of New Zealand and other animals who kissed the face of the earth goodbye because of people - especially those who don't care about animals as long as their pockets are full.

Kudos to the Coast Guard as well as to the Philippine Navy who acted on a tip about the shipment of the said sea turtles from Roxas to Marabon Island in Balabac! Hadn't you responded, these people won't be apprehended. We need more people like you!
