Palawan Provincial Law Enforcement Task Force rescue 525 sea turtles from Palawan resort
It
seems people who have personal intention won't stop their illegal activity no
matter what. They defy the rules and simply do things they like without
thinking the consequences of their actions.
This is proven to be
true when members of the Palawan Provincial Law Enforcement Task Force
recovered inside the Kaliksi Island Resort in Roxas town discovered 525
Hawkbill sea turtles - 413 were hatchlings and 112 were juvenile
turtles.
There were also 63,
believed to be turtle eggs, recovered during the operation.
The Hawksbill sea turtle
are critically endangered species yet people continue to
hunt them or sell them elsewhere.
Initial
report said that the turtles were under the possession of Ecoresort and
Development Corp., allegedly involved in culturing or reproducing the species
without a permit.
The
companies' project manager refused to comment on the issue, claiming the firm
is discussing with someone from environmental agencies.
The
Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, however, clarified that it does
not issue permits for capturing and growing Hawksbill sea turtles.
Officials
of Barangay Tumarbong, whose jurisdiction the island resort is part of, also
said they did not know it was illegal to culture turtles without permits, philstar.com reported.
